Agarwood vs Sandalwood: Choosing a Wood Bracelet

Agarwood and sandalwood are different aromatic woods. Agarwood’s fragrance is associated with resin that develops within the wood; sandalwood is valued for its fragrant heartwood. In a bracelet, the useful comparison also includes the visible grain, bead shape, finish and fit.

Where the fragrance comes from

Agarwood forms in certain trees, principally Aquilaria and Gyrinops. Injury and biological stresses can trigger resin formation in the wood. The resin is distributed unevenly, helping explain why darker regions can appear beside lighter grain.

Sandalwood fragrance comes from aromatic compounds in the heartwood—the inner wood of the tree. Santalum album is one well-known example. Sandalwood names can refer to different materials in trade, so a specific species or source should come from the product’s documentation.

What can you compare?

Set expectations for scent

Descriptions often call sandalwood creamy or softly woody, and agarwood resinous, sweet or spicy. These words describe a range of impressions. A bracelet worn at room temperature is a different experience from burning incense or smelling a concentrated oil.

If fragrance is central to your choice, ask about the specific bracelet, including any added scent or surface finish. Consider the grain and construction alongside the description rather than choosing only by the strongest-sounding aroma.

Round beads or a line of discs?

FEIFEI uses 8.4 mm agarwood beads with visible dark resin, a faceted green focal element and 18K gold-plated brass spacers. JIGUANG uses sandalwood cut into 7 mm discs, with gold-plated bands and multicolored pavé crystal rings.

Those pieces differ in more than wood. FEIFEI has a rounded bead profile interrupted by a green focal point; JIGUANG’s discs create a more closely repeated line. Compare the whole bracelet in photographs, then check the stated wrist fit. Diameter is one measurement, not a substitute for the size of the finished piece.

A gentle routine for either wood

Remove wood bracelets before showering, swimming or soaking. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth, let accidental dampness dry naturally, and keep the piece away from direct heat and strong cleaners. Apply perfume and skincare first and let them dry before wearing.

Avoid adding perfume or scented oil to refresh the beads; it changes what you smell and may affect the finish. The cord, plated details and accent stones also need care. Choose the wood and design you enjoy, in a size and construction you can comfortably wear and maintain.
